Unfortunately the perfect couple was not so perfect and the relationship ended. Nick Jonas' perspective is going to be detailed in his upcoming sophomore solo album Last Year Was Complicated. He already released "Close" featuring Tove Lo, which was about how he struggled to become emotionally vulnerable. Then he decided to release "Champagne Problems."
"Champagne Problems" details Nick having one last toast of champagne with an ex: "I got a bottle I've been saving up/Thought that we'd drink it all night, hey/We were the opposite of breaking up/Can't believe I'm losing you/We just opened up too soon."
In a Reddit AMA, someone asked Nick what the song was about. He admitted that the song is about, "sharing a bottle of champagne with my now ex as we were breaking up to kind of close that chapter. It was sad and slightly sweet at the same time. It was a range of emotions and feelings and I think this song, although it sounds like a party song, actually has some of the deepest lyrics on the record."
"Champagne Problems" is off Nick Jonas' sophomore solo album Last Year Was Complicated. The album is set to be released on June 10 through Island Records. The song is currently #33 on US iTunes' Top Pop Songs. Last Year Was Complicated is available for preorder on iTunes and "Champagne Problems" is available to stream on Spotify. Nick Jonas will be going on The Future Now Tour with Demi Lovato beginning later this month in New Orleans.
