The result was "Stay Alive" featuring Alkaline Trio's Matt Skiba. Andy has said that the collaboration, "was a dream come true for me...Matt's voice helped me through so much throughout my formative stages and to have him come in and sing on a song about survival and the fear that can come from disparity was an incredible experience and one I will never forget."
The song is a classic-sounding pop-punk ballad about keeping on even when times are tough (The All-American Rejects' "Move Along" comes to mind): "Stay alive for the good times/Stay alive through the bad/Stay alive for the hopes, and the feels, and the dreams/The best that we ever had." Personally, I like "We Don't Have To Dance" a little more; this song sounds a little been-there-done-that, because there's so many pop-punk songs that have a similar sound and a similar message. What makes "Stay Alive" special, however, is Andy Black's distinct deep powerful voice. It's a voice like no other in the scene.
"Stay Alive" featuring Matt Skiba is off Andy Black's debut solo album The Shadow Side. The album is set for release on May 6 through Republic Records. The album is available for preorder on iTunes and "Stay Alive" is available for streaming on Spotify. Andy Black will be going on The Homecoming Tour with Creeper in May starting off in the UK.
