When Andy announced his solo project Andy Black, I decided to follow it. Maybe his new music was more in my range. Then he began working with John Feldman, the producer behind all your favorite punk rock albums, and I knew it would be something I would like. I got to see for sure yesterday, when Andy Black announced the preorder of his album The Shadow Side, along with the instant download of his song "We Don't Have To Dance."
The song title did catch me for a second. "We Don't Have To Dance?" It sounds like the title to a Cascada song. But then I listened to it, and it is so incrediblely satisfying. It's dark, with lyrics like, "Tattooed necks and tattooed hands/Oh, how don't you drown in the rain storm?/Fresh regret, vodka sweats/The sun is down and we're bound to get/Exhausted and so far from the shore." I like it, it's like melted dark chocolate. Black Veil Brides fans may not be as enthusiastic, because guitar riffs and screams are replaced with a driving beat and synths. But don't worry guys, Black Veil Brides is still alive! Andy has assured us.
"We Don't Have To Dance" is off Andy Black debut album The Shadow Side, which is set for release on May 6 through Republic Records. The song is currently number 1 on the UK iTunes Top Rock Songs (number 2 in the US). The album is available for preorder on iTunes and the song is available to stream on Spotify. Andy Black will be going on The Homecoming Tour with Creeper starting in May.
